Daniela Romo was born on 27 August 1959, in Mexico City, Mexico, and christened Teresa Presmanes Corona. Her parents never wedded and weren’t around much so she and her sister Patricia ended up getting brought up by their grandmother.
When she was little, Daniela was smitten by Rocio Durcal, a famous singer and actress whom she idolized. It was this obsession that gave her the courage to pursue a career in music and acting.
At the start of her music journey, Daniela was a backup singer for the group Los Hermanos Zavala. In 1983, she met the Spanish producer Danilo Vaona who helped her record her eponymous debut album, Daniela Romo. It featured her first hit song, Mentiras, and other No. 1 hit singles.
