Monique Angela Hicks is best known as Mo’Nique. She’s a comedian and award-winning actress who’s seen huge success in her career. However, her acting work has come to a halt in recent years. In 2022, she’s still in the middle of an ongoing feud with certain people in the entertainment industry.

February 17th 2022 saw Mo’Nique take to Instagram to speak on the ongoing feud with Tyler Perry, Oprah and Lee Daniels. So, how did their disagreement begin? Let’s take a look at what happened with Mo’Nique and Oprah Winfrey…

Who is Mo’Nique?

Mo’Nique was born in Maryland in 1967. Her career started out in stand-up comedy and she landed her first TV role on Moesha as Nicole “Nikki” Parker in 1999.

She then went on to play Dhalia in the 2000 film 3 Strikes and was a part of The Queens of Comedy in 2001.

Mo’Nique won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Mary Lee Johnston in Precious in 2009.

What happened with Mo’Nique and Oprah Winfrey?

Mo’Nique and Oprah Winfrey’s feud goes back 13 years. At the core of the dispute, Mo’Nique says she feels as if she was “blackballed” by Oprah, Lee Daniels and Tyler Perry.

Speaking to TS Madison on Fox Soul TV in February 2022, Mo’Nique said: “I did a movie called Precious, Tyler Perry and Oprah became executive producers of the movie.“

Mo’Nique continued to explain that the movie had been filmed, as far as she was concerned, she’d fulfilled her contractual agreements. But, Tyler Perry, Oprah and Lee Daniels wanted her to attend the festivals, awards ceremonies and events linked to Precious but she said she wasn’t going to “work for free“.

Mo’Nique added: “When they knew that I was not going to be the actress or be the one to say ‘because it’s them, I’ve got to do it’… now here comes the blackball, now here comes ‘she’s difficult to work with’.”

Has Oprah Winfrey responded to Mo’Nique?

Speaking to TS Madison on Fox Soul TV in February 2022, Mo’Nique said: “Oprah Winfrey said nothing. Though there was a conversation that she had with my husband and she agreed with the position that was being taken. So when it hit that I was difficult, she stayed quiet.”

In 2018, Oprah said that she hadn’t publicly spoken about the Mo’Nique situation because: “It’s a law that if you meet negative with negative you will just have a combustive negative force of energy” as per Vibe.

In a 2018 interview with TMZ, Lee Daniels said of the situation with Mo’Nique: “She was paid the money for the budget that we had. For her to badmouth myself, Tyler and Oprah is disrespectful and it’s wrong.“

Lee Daniels added: “It breaks my heart that she feels that we blackballed her.“

The comedian wrote on her February 17th, 2022 Instagram post: “I am not going anywhere” in regard to the feud with Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels and Oprah.

Speaking on Mo’Nique and Steve Get Real: Part 2 in 2019, Steve Harvey said to Mo’Nique: “These people owe you an apology, you owe those people an apology. Then we can move forward.“
