Man blames car audio shop for vehicle fire WSOC TV
None — Danny Heath said his SUV suddenly caught fire minutes after he left a shop that had just installed a new stereo system.
“The fire was coming out from under the dash,” he said.
Heath wasn't hurt, but his 1999 Chevy Blazer was a total loss.
He blames Sound on Wheels, a Rock Hill car audio shop.
“Because that car ran fine before I took it up there to them,” Heath said.
Investigators said the damage was too extensive to determine the exact cause of the fire, but that it appeared to have started in the dash.
Heath said Sound on Wheels told him it turned it over to its insurance company to investigate.
But two weeks after the fire, Heath was upset they hadn’t given him anything to drive.
Action 9 went with Heath to the shop, and manager Rick Miller said he wasn't aware his claims representative hadn't given Heath a rental.
“We'll take care of whatever we got to do. That's just up to them,” he said. “But yeah, you can drive. I got a vehicle you can drive, if you want to go that route, until we talk to them.”
Instead of just loaning Heath something to drive, Miller agreed to give Heath his 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck and signed over the title.
Also, Miller reimbursed Heath $1,500 for the stereo equipment that burned and said he would have the insurance company settle with him.
“I feel a lot more comfortable (and) a lot more relaxed now, and I thank you for doing what you're doing,” Heath said.
