Assam Minister Bimal Borah expressed on platform X, “On his Punyatithi, the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra,’ Dr. #BhupenHazarika, stands as India’s most significant unifying figure, responsible for showcasing the rich Assamese culture to the world.
He added that Sudhakantha’s unmatched legacy is a part of our heritage. Let us work towards realizing the Assam of his dreams, uniting everyone, per the lines of ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe.”

Priyabada Patel Hazarika, the widow of the legendary Bhupen Hazarika, passed away in Ottawa, Canada.
She was 88 years old and is survived by her sole son, Tez Bhupen Hazarika.
Patel was married to Hazarika while he was pursuing his Ph.D. in Mass Communication at Columbia University in the United States during the early 1950s.
She came from a Gujarati family with business interests in Kenya. Following over a decade of living with Hazarika, she eventually relocated.
During their shared period, she played a vital role in assisting Bhupen Hazarika with several of his early films.
She even took on an acting role in “Era Bator Sur,” a film directed by Hazarika in 1956.
Further, she was also well-known for her contribution as the dance director for that film.
Patel was also a talented and dedicated woman who left a lasting mark on Assamese culture.

Bhupen Hazariks had one son, Tez Hazarika.
He was born in 1952 in New York City. Bhupen and his son, Tej Hazarika, lived separate lives in India and America, with infrequent but meaningful encounters.
However, following his father’s passing, Tej, now a 68-year-old publisher based in Brooklyn, feels a stronger connection to the maestro than ever.
He has taken the initiative to establish a foundation in Hazarika’s honor, dedicated to preserving the enduring legacy of the singer who was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna.
